Frederic Rzewski: Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier (based on an Irish song which became popular during the American revolutionary war and whose structure Rzewski uses to express his thoughts on the current war)(world première)
John Harbison: Abu Ghraib (based on Iraqi songs the composer was asked to transcribe for the 1962 anthology, Lullabies of the World)
Kristin Norderval: Far from Home (two voices and live processing, 2007)(composed for the Iraqi actress Namaa Alward and combining fragments of Iraqi folksongs with spoken work and electronic processing to mourn the loss of home that war creates)

Programme also includes 2 short animated films from William Kentridge’s critically acclaimed 9 Drawings for Projection (2005) accompanied by a live performance of Philip Miller’s original score.
