Lukas Ligeti, electronic marimba; Colleen, electric viola de gamba

8.30pm, Saturday 17 May 2008

Programme of multi-genre and experimental music. Ligeti and Colleen are two distinctive voices. Ligeti, steeped in the musical traditions of his father György Ligeti, embodies reinvention by making his contemporary music crackle with energy. His polymetric, rhythmic soundscapes are mainly based on samples produced during his travels throughout Africa. Colleen reflects her deep love of acoustic sounds through the warmth of the viola de gamba- the seven-string ancestor of the cello.
