Merano International Music Festival Bolzano, Italy
Merano International Music Festival
26th August - 29th September 2008
The Merano Music Festival is among the important festivals of classical music in Europe. Introduced in 1986, the year of the 150th anniversary of the renowned spa town Merano, the Music Festival has been held ever since between the end of August and the end of September. Thanks to outstanding performances it has become an international meeting point for classical music. The elegant Kurhaus provides the ideal ambience for the festival. The Kursaal was designed by the Austrian architect Friedrich Ohmann and is one of the most beautiful concert halls in Europe. It is regarded a unique example of Jugendstil architecture. Its vast and elegant interior is flooded with light, making both artists and audience feel at their ease. This is largely due to the good acoustics of the concert hall.

Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro, Italy
Rossini Opera Festival
9th - 23rd August 2008
The aim of the Rossini Opera Festival aim is to revive, perform on stage and to study the musical heritage connected with the composer, who, by leaving all his considerable fortune to the town council of Pesaro, gave birth to the Conservatory of Music and the Foundation that bear his name today. Year by year it has become increasingly clear that as the long-forgotten scores are revived one by one, problems in their musical performance and in their staging for modern audiences become increasingly numerous and complex. For this reason the strategy of the Festival is to accompany the re-discovery of Rossini's little-known operas - and, since 1990, the exploration of all his chamber and salon works - with the systematic study of the problems involved with presenting a contemporary audience for the first time.

The festival venue is the Castle of the Knights of Malta in Magione, with its stunning 15th-century courtyard.

Ravenna Festival
13th June - 18th July 2008
Ravenna Festival is the youngest of all the major European events. In 2004 it celebrated its fifteenth anniversary, yet it is not only the artistic achievements, but also its size, which makes it an event of unquestionable importance. One of the distinguishing features of the festival's programming is the number of events staged in the town's extraordinary and extremely rich monumental heritage. Not only the theatres, but also the splendid Byzantine basilicas, cloisters, piazzas provide the settings which attribute a particular charm to the event, creating that added value which is the result of the magical combination of art and music.
